5 Awesome Adventures to Have in Colorado - maroon bells view with crater lake
Maroon Bells

The aptly named Maroon Bells is the most photographed place in Colorado. Without a doubt, it’s also certainly one of the most beautiful. Due to its popularity, reservations are required to visit most of the summer and fall. There are public buses that take you to the area or you can drive your own car with a reservation.

Aside from jaw dropping views, this area also has many magnificent hikes. We recommend the moderate 3.5 mile hike to Crater Lake for the best view of the two iconic 14,000 foot peaks. You can also opt for the shorter Maroon Bells Scenic Loop trail, which is an easy stroll for everyone.

Red Rocks Amphitheater

Attending a concert at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater is definitely a must do when visiting Colorado. Built into the surrounding rock, this unique venue has incredible sound and even better views. Aside from legendary concerts, Red Rocks also offers yoga, drive-in movies, hiking trails and a Colorado Music Hall of Fame museum.

Winter at Rocky Mountain

Located only 65 miles from Denver, Rocky Mountain National Park is an outdoor lover’s paradise. This park boasts 77 peaks over 12,000 feet as well as the highest continuous paved highway in the US, Trail Ridge Road. From this stunningly scenic 48 mile drive, you can hike, spot wildlife, tour the visitors center, and also witness endless mountain peaks.

While the park is gorgeous at any time of year, much less of it is open during the winter. Additionally, in the summer, you must have reservations to enter Rocky Mountain, as it gets very busy during this time. It costs $25 per car to visit or you can buy an annual National Parks pass for $80.

Scenic Train ride along the arkansas river and royal gorge area
Royal Gorge Railroad

The spectacular Royal Gorge is home to the world’s highest suspension bridge, which stretches across this 1,200 foot deep canyon. While you can view this astonishing natural feature from the bridge, we think the best way to experience it is by railroad. On this two hour train ride, you’ll see the heart of the canyon as you ride alongside the Arkansas River. Enjoy the stunning views from the open air cars or as you dine on one of the special dinner voyages.

Crested Butte, The Perfect Ski Town

Last, but not least, is to spend time in a Colorado ski town. While there are many amazing little spots throughout the state, we recommend visiting the infamous Aspen or the self proclaimed “last great Colorado ski town” of Crested Butte. Both of these places offer the quintessential ski town experience, with fabulous skiing, great restaurants, and beautiful snowy views.
